Social Events

The social events, welcome reception and closing dinner, are suitably both on the theme water considering this is a benchmark workshop related to hydropower and dams.

Stockholm is known for consisting of 14 islands and 24 000 islands and islets in its archipelago and during these social events, you will see some of the best aspects of Stockholm.

Welcome reception

You are warmly welcome to attend the Welcome Reception which will be held at the at the Vasa Museum.

The Vasa ship was a warship that capsized on its maiden voyage just outside of the harbor of Stockholm in 1628. After laying 333 years on the seabed, the ship was salvaged and preserved. Today the ship is displayed at the Vasa museum, which is the most visited museum in Scandinavia.  More information http://www.vasamuseet.se/en

The welcome reception includes a guided tour of the museum and a three-course dinner with typical Swedish cuisine in the restaurant.

Closing Dinner

Date: Thursday, September 7, 2017
Time: 19:00 (at Nybroviken Harbour)
Price: free for all registered participants of ICOLD BW 2017
Dress Code: Smart casual

The Closing Dinner will be held at the Vaxholm Citadel, located in the Stockholm archipelago. The citadel dates back to the early 1500s and was up to the First World War, part of the Swedish defence.

During the Closing Dinner, a guide will present information about history of the Citadel and after this a three-course dinner with typical Swedish cuisine will be served in the Citadel.

The transportation to the Vaxholm Citadel will be made by a ferry from the harbour Nybroviken (Strandvägen, Dock number 13), located within 15 minutes walking distance from Hotel Birger Jarl. https://goo.gl/maps/iYAf2eFzFDv

The ferry transport takes less than one hour which allows the participants to mingle. The transport back to Hotel Birger Jarl is provided with busses.
